HARTON TOWN TRUST

Over a hundred walkers in the Square, before walking round the ancient borough of Harton.
As part of the Millennium Hartland 2000 Celebrations, the Harton Town Trust organsied an extremely successful "Beating of the Old Borough Bounds" walk when about 115 people - young and not so young - followed as near as practically possible the boundary of the Ancient Borough of Harton. It was advertised as a walk of "Four Devon Miles" - which was good measure by any reckoning! The walkers assembled in the Square ready for the ceremonial send-off by the Rev'd. Fred Pennington at 2pm.
Regular readers will recall from our January issue that the Harton Town Trust have erected a set of eight Millennium Boundary stones at known locations around the old borough perimeter. The walkers set out to visit the sites of all eight in an orbital route taking in the old borough.
Having well spread out along the route, the final walkers arrived back at 5.20 pm, though the more athletic front runners completed the route in 2 hours 10 mins, more than an hour earlier.
Returning walkers made their way to the Pavilion for a 'Shared Tea' which was also a great success. Hartland Town Band made the event that much more special by playing for an hour or so whilst the tea was enjoyed.
A super event to take part in, we are also delighted that it is one of the events we have been able to include in our special 'Millennium Colour Special.' Special thanks to Stephen Hobbs, the chairman of the Harton Town Trust, and his fellow trustees, the Hartland 2000 Committee, and all the refreshment providers, for a day to remember. The suggestion heard frequently since is that it would be a lovely custom to keep going, now that it has been revived.
