Satish
Kumar, author and editor of "Resurgence" magazine will
be our guest speaker. Satish made his home at "Ford House",
Hartland in 1979 and was the founder of The Small School. A former
monk, a peace activist, pilgrim extraordinaire, and ecological
campaigner, he will be sharing with us something of his journeying
and experiences. His latest book, "You Are, therefore
I Am - a Declaration of Dependence" has recently been
published and Satish will be bringing copies of the book to the
meeting. |

speaker from the Northern Devon Coast & Countryside Service
will be presenting an evening on the North Devon AONB. With the
Management Plan for the ANOB being drawn up during 2003, this
will be an excellent opportunity to hear about Hartland's place
within this newly designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
- the thirty-seventh in England - which encompasses the coastal
strip from Combe Martin to Marsland Mouth. |

Hobbs has been researching the plans to bring the railway to Hartland,
and how the site of his present home was earmarked as the railway
station for Hartland! Steve will also be shedding light on the
history of railways in this corner of North Devon and other grand
plans that have never materialised. |

derived from the older archives from both the Ancient Harton Borough
Accounts and unpublished records from the North Devon Archive
