Research Service
As a service, to those interested, arrangements have been made with the Research Assistant at The North Devon Athenaeum to undertake research on behalf of the Hartland Archives Project. This is a professional service undertaken by qualified staff and at a reasonable cost. They can search any of the records held by the North Devon Athenaeum and Local Studies Centre and those deposited by Hartland Digital Archive as well as those records held by the North Devon Record Office .
Where necessary additional information will be supplied to the Research Assistant by the Hartland Archive Project if needed.

At present (2011)the charges are as follows:- £12.00 per half hour
- £20.00 per hour
- With a minimum charge of £12.00
The charges include a limited number of photocopies and printouts and any digital images requested will cost extra. They will ask that all payments be made before the research is carried out and will assess how long a search is likely to take and give an estimate for the costs. They can accept payment via cheque or postal orders in Sterling (GBP) made payable to North Devon Athenaeum.
Research requests are undertaken in the order we receive them and as we expect this service to be popular there can be delays. They will however, try to keep you informed of any delays when they send an estimate for the work.
There may be some instances where the work takes less than the estimated time. In these cases they will provide credits which can then be used towards any further research or printout requests etc. If the search includes looking at documents in the North Devon Record Office which are subject to restricted access that will be referred to the Record Office and not be charged for the portion of the search. (The Record Office may impose charges)
